This charming and evocative - often delightfully amusing - reflective Collection of Poems created by multi award-winning Bucks Mills Poet - Merlynda Robinson - whilst ‘Poet-In-Residence’ at The Cabin in Bucks Mills - is inspired by the array of strange, sentimental and decaying possessions locked-up within The Cabin by Mary Stella Edwards when her lifelong companion and artistic collaborator, Judith Ackland, died in 1971.
Mary simply left everything behind - locked the door - and never returned.
On Mary's death, The Cabin was placed in the care of an especially created Trust - then subsequently passed to The National Trust - and became a Listed Building:
‘A time box of mid- 20th century life’
This Cabin inspired Poetry Collection is illustrated with Black/White photographs of the strange - and almost miniature-scale - interior of The Cabin - and depicts the possessions Merlynda felt particularly drawn to and created short poems about during her Residency - plus - a couple of her original Black/White illustrations and two other poems she created - inspired by the local characters and folklore of Bucks Mills - one of which has been shortlisted in The UKSC.
Each day in The Cabin, Merlynda created poems about the special - and often rather ‘odd’ - personal possessions of the poet and artist who had lived there together so sublimely - and the powerful ‘psychometric’ feelings they inspired in her.
Daily filming her live recitation of each of these little poems to camera - each of these short films are now available to view on Youtube.
